Lisa Kudrow – NOT a Virgin Until MarriageJanuary 22nd, 2010 by WTM.org Community
There have been rumors circulated for years that Lisa Kudrow waited until she was marred (at age 31) to have sex, and that she was a virgin until then. Indeed, I published a lengthy article last year based on interviews I had read in which she supposedly said that she was a virgin until marriage.
Lisa Kudrow’s most famous quote about waiting till marriage…
“My virginity was something I had decided was very precious, something that I owned, to give away. It was an honor I was bestowing on a young man, and he had to be worthy of it.”
Did she say it?
Yes. The above quote, as best as I can tell, is accurate. But according to her the quote was taken out of context. In an interview with Jay Leno she clears up the rumors once and for all. You can watch the interview below until Hulu takes the video down (please leave me a comment if the video is dead for you). But for posterity’s sake, I’ve also put together a little mini-transcript of the interview for you.
Here’s the transcript of Lisa’s interview with Jay Leno…
Lisa Kudrow: It’s the most frequently asked question of me: “So you were a virgin when you got married? It’s not true.”
Jay Leno: Only in America is that like an insult — “Oh she was a virgin when she got married!”
Lisa Kudrow: No I don’t take it as an insult!
Jay Leno: It’s not an insult.
Lisa Kudrow: No, no. What I was trying to say is that when I was young I had always had hoped and wanted to be a virgin when I got married, which I think is worthwhile.
And here’s the video of the interview, until Hulu takes it down:
Again, please let me know if that video above is dead for you. I’m sure Hulu will take it down eventually and I don’t want a dead embed on here.
So I hope that clears things up a little. You can see why these rumors stayed so alive for so long: There were some half-truths involved with them. She did say that she wanted to wait, but never said that she ultimately did wait.
It still remains strange to me that this ever came up in an interview in the first place. I mean, pretty much every girl starts out saying that they intend to wait until marriage. Why even mention it? Maybe the rumor came before the quote. Or maybe she waited for a little bit and then took a different path.
Thanks to reader Chris for finding me this interview!
