NY Giants Cornerback Prince Amukamara is Waiting Till Marriage

October 20th, 2013 by

Prince Amukamara and Pilar Davis

Yeah, some people call me the Black Tim Tebow. Yeah, I am a virgin. I’m not ashamed to say that.

Prince Amukamara  is real Nigerian prince whose first name is also “Prince.” Ten years ago, he was playing casual football games with the neighborhood kids in the park across the street from his house. Today, he’s the top cornerback for the New York Giants. He’s also an unabashed virgin who’s waiting until marriage to have sex.

Mini Biography

Born Prince Kelechi Amukamara on June 6, 1989 in Massachusetts to parents Romanus (a teacher) and Christy Amukamara (a former Olympic athlete). Note: His legal first name is “Prince,” and he is also Nigerian royalty (you could call him “Prince Prince”).

Prince’s father (Romanus Amukamara) was born to a royal family in Nigeria. He was slated for a life of wealth and privilege, but decided instead to immigrate to the US and pursue an education.

Romanus started in community college, then upgraded to NJ State, then joined the US Army. As his family grew, their small place in NJ was becoming too small, so Romanus moved the family to Glendale, Arizona.

Their new home in Arizona was across the street from a public park. When the children wanted to play, they’d usually end up playing in the park, and young Prince Amukamara grew increasingly immersed in local pee-wee football games.

Prince Amukamara attended High School in Arizona, and excelled in multiple sports (of course).  Most notably, Amukamara was a track & field standout — his HS coach called him “an explosive weapon” on the football field.

Age 16 – 17: Now a freshman in high school, he gets introduced to FCA and starts learning about Christianity. He meets a Nebraska teammate, Eric Hagg, at an FCA camp and starts following Christ and knowing more about Him.

Scores 23 touchdowns in six games. Named “Big School Player of the Year,” and is offered scholarships from several prominent schools. Despite the scout interest, he remains focused on the game. When asked to comment on all the recruiters interested in him, he says “I’m not worried about the recruiting now. I will look at it closer after the season.”

Age 18 – 21: Amukamara attends the University of Nebraska, and plays for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Age 18: Makes his debut for Nebraska against Ball State. A senior teammate describes him as being a newcomer “with a lot of personality.” Amukamara finishes the year with four tackles in eight games, and still makes time for his studies (he earns a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll).

Age 19: Plays in all 13 of Nebraska’s games. Finishes the year with 34 tackles.

Age 20: Now a junior, Amukamara becomes starting cornerback for Nebraska. Suffers an injury during a game against LA, but still doesn’t miss any games. Finishes the 2009 season tied for the most interceptions on the team. Selected for the First-Team All-Big 12 (unanimous selected by coaches, KC Star, SA Express-News, Dallas Morning News,,, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 2009)

Age 21: Now a senior, Amukamara continues to play exceptionally well, and is praised for his “lock-down ability” against wide receivers during the season. Selected unanimously as a first-team All-American, and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.  Selected 19th by the New York Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft. The day after signing with the Giants, he gets sidelined indefinitely with a broken left foot on the metatarsal bone.

In the first series of his career with the Giants, Amukamara recorded an interception on a Vince Young pass against the Philadelphia Eagles. He won his first Super Bowl, winning Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants, defeating the New England Patriots 21-17.

Age 22: Meets Pilar Davis (his fiance) for the first time in a club in New York City.

Age 23: Snags his first career interception and win the Super Bowl after recovering from an injury.

Impresses Coach Tom Coughlin with his tentative plays at times last season.  Amukamara’s aggressive one-on-one coverage is evident during championship postseason run.

Pro Football Focus calls him a “second-year standout” and rates him as the 9th best cornerback in the entire league.

Faces controversy when a video was posted online showing him and his Giants teammates, with linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul front and center, dumping him in an ice bath. The media called it hazing and coach Tom Coughlin ended up publicly addressing the situation.

Age 24: Proposes to Pilar on stage at a Jabbawockeez show at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. They are expected to get married next year.

Quotes about waiting…

Yeah, some people call me the Black Tim Tebow. Yeah, I am a virgin. I’m not ashamed to say that.

I grew up Catholic, so it just started out as one of those things. I’d think, “If I do this, maybe I can get to heaven,” so I said no drinks, no sex, all the big things. As I grew up, I realized that’s not what it’s about. It’s about having a relationship with Jesus. It’s not about “Don’t do this. Don’t do that.”

How he met his fiancé (Pilar Davis)

We met in New York, we were out dancing. I was just drawn to her. … I said, ‘Are you waiting for someone?’ And she said, ‘Yeah.’

So I didn’t know what else to say after that so I started walking away,” he continued. “But my teammates, Corey Webster and Aaron Ross, made me go back. They were like, ‘Go say something to her!’ And they were cheering me on. She thought we were all rowdy and drunk and she didn’t pay us any attention. Then, later, I was waiting for Ahmad [Bradshaw] and she came by and we struck up a conversation. I asked her for her email address because when someone asks for your number, it might be too personal and you might not want to give it. But if you ask for their e-mail address, they’ll give it. I was right.”
